Pointe-Claire Swim Club tops standings at 2017 Speedo Eastern Championships

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Pointe-Claire Swim Club placed first in the combined team standings as the 2017 Speedo Eastern Championships swimming competition concluded on Sunday at the Etobicoke Olympium.

The Montreal area club totalled 1,713.5 points finishing ahead of Montreal’s Club CAMO in second at 969.5 and host Etobicoke Swimming which climbed into third on the final day with 959.

In Sunday’s racing, Jade Hannah and Faith Knelson, both of Victoria won their fifth gold medals in the girls 13 and over age group with victories in the 50-m freestyle and 200-m individual medley.

Hanna Henderson of Etobicoke won her sixth medal but first gold with the win the 200-m butterfly.

In the girls 16 and over, MacKenzie Padington of Victoria finished with seven individual medals including her fifth gold in the 200-m IM and silver in the 50-m freestyle which was won by Michelle Toro of North York, Ont..

Mabel Zavaros of Oakville, Ont., also reached the seven medal mark with gold in the 200-m butterfly and bronze in the 200-m IM.

Winners in the boys 17 and over competition were David Pouliot of Quebec in the 1500-m freestyle, Owen Daly of Montreal in the 50-m free and William Marois of St-Eustache, Que., in the 200-m IM.

Winners in the boys 14 and over were Brodie Young of New Westminster, B.C. in the 1500-m free, Justin Baker of North York, Ont., in the 50-m freestyle and Owen Huang of Markham, Ont., in the 200-m IM.
